The Department of “History of Uzbekistan in the second half of the XIX – at the beginning of the XX centuries”

The Department of “History of Uzbekistan in the second half of the XIX – at the beginning of the XX centuries” was contemporarily established with the Institute of History of Uzbekistan. The department was supervised by Doctor of History, Professor H. Ziyayev from 1965 to 1990s under whose supervision were prepared and published relevant parts of multi volume works on the history of Uzbekistan, numerous monographs and scientific articles. 

The Department has been supervised by Doctor of History, professor D. Hamidovna since 1998. In the last 15 years, actual problems on the history of Uzbekistan in the second half of the XIX – at the beginning of the XX centuries have been researched at the department. The staffs of the department have published approximately 20 monographs and more than 300 hundred scientific articles on national and foreign phenomena. Basing on the analyses of new sources in them, the main attention is oriented in rethinking contradictory historical processes happening in that period in political, economic, spiritual-cultural lives of Uzbek nations, as well as, political and economic consequences of the colonial policy in the area, enlightenment movements of Jadids.  

New directions in scholarly activity at the department are the following scientific problems as the history of entrepreneurship, Military affairs, socio-political processes in Bukharan and Khivan Khanates, history of cities, transportation system and communication, handcraftsmanship, waqf property, enlightenment-cultural offices, religious policy and different confessions, social problems, analyses of historical works and sources including printed press.

The main attention of the staffs of the department is currently directed to prepare new edition of relevant parts of multi volume work and Reading book on the history of Uzbekistan, as well as history of cities.

High priority role in the scholarly activity of the department in the last 10 years is played important scientific problems in large-scale chronological frames including guest scholars. The following works on the history of Uzbekistan as the history of entrepreneurship, Military Affairs, new researches on the cities of Uzbekistan and their chronological frame include from ancient time to the present.

 

Researches on the following direction have been held at the department in the recent years:

  1. History of Uzbekistan, V Volume (1860-1917)
  2. Reading Book of History of Uzbekistan, V Volume (1860-1917)
  3. History of entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan (from the ancient epoch – up to the present)
  4. History of Military Affairs in Uzbekistan (from the ancient epoch – up to the present)
  5. History of the Khanates of Bukhara and Khiva in the last quarter of the XIX – at the beginning of the XX centuries.
  6. Religious policy and confessions in Uzbekistan at rhe end of the XIX – XX centuries.
  7. History of the cities in Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the staffs of the department participate in other collective projects and foreign grants.

The following teaching-methodical programs on the history and historiography of Uzbekistan have been prepared by the staffs of the department which provide to hold classes at National University of Uzbekistan and Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies:

  3. Historiography of Central Asian Khanates (D. Ziyayeva).
  4. Historiography of Soviet Administration in the year of independence (D. Ziyayeva).

  6. Questions of Source Studies and Historiography of Uzbekistan (S. Shadmanova).
  7. Archeography (S. Shadmanova).
  8. Contemporary methods of historical researches. (S. Shadmanova)
  9. Contemporary methods of teaching history (S. Shamanova).
